Plastic is fantastic at Pencoys – Redruth, Cornwall – December 2025

In December of 2025 we at Rhino Play carried out a complete replacement of the old wooden trim trail at Pencoys Primary School near Redruth, in Cornwall.

The school had been busy fundraising and sourcing funds for this for a long time as the old trail had been falling to pieces over a long period. The area of the trail had been closed off for a long time meaning that the pupils had nowhere to use with a large part of the playground being shut off, which is not ideal in a school.

Replacing Timber With Quality Recycled Plastic Play

Crofty MAT, who run the school, were very keen not to replace the timber equipment with more timber equipment, but with our non rotting recycled plastic. This material is becoming so popular with our clients, with many of our clients seeing how great that it looks at other schools. Crofty wanted a material that was sustainable, required very little upkeep, was non rotting & yet appealing to look at & touch too.

We created a new trim trail in the same area of wet pour rubber and with the fall heights of the new equipment matching that of the existing. We patch repaired the wet pour rubber as there was no budget to completely replace it, however we patched it in yellow and created a new edge banding so as to tidy the area up & make it useable. Banding and patch repairing is a temporary fix, but can allow clients to embark on a project that they couldn’t of otherwise afforded to start.

A Trim Trail To Last Years Of Fun

The result is that now the pupils have a trim trail that they can use all year, in a sustainable worry free material, that blends in with the surroundings but is yet appealing & that creates a challenging yet achievable course of a new style of equipment for all age groups.
