Why Choose A Low Level Trim Trail For Your Hotel or Holiday Park?

March 20, 2023 Trim Trails

If you’re on the hunt for unique playground equipment to completely transform your hotels and leisure parks, then you should consider installing a low-level trim trail. As a common favourite amongst children of all ages, a low-level trim trail guarantees a high-level of fun and enjoyment, whilst also ensuring maximum safety for its users.

For over ten years, Rhino Play has been offering its renowned playground design and planning services to parks and playgrounds across the South West, creating bespoke play equipment set-ups that match our customers’ individual requirements. To give you a better understanding of low-level trim trails and their advantages, we have answered some frequently asked questions, below..

What Is A Low Level Trim Trail?

Made from the highest quality wood and recycled plastic playground equipment materials, Rhino Play’s trim trails are essentially outdoor obstacle courses, consisting of various apparatus, such as a Burma Bridge or Pull Up Bars to create a trail of exciting activities for children to follow. The goal is that children can get from the beginning of the course to the end, as quickly as possible and without falling off, making it a fun, collaborative challenge for them to take on with their friends. Although low-level trim trails differ slightly in height, all of the individual apparatus included within the course will have a maximum free fall height of 0.6m, which makes them a safe option for smaller children.

Trim trails are commonly found at schools and nurseries, community groups and within local authority outside spaces, but are recently becoming increasingly popular within hotels and leisure parks. There are plenty of apparatus to choose from that will suit different ages, area sizes and budgets.

Choose Your Rhino Play Trim Trail Apparatus

Rhino Play offers an extensive range of trim trail apparatus, which has been carefully designed to be long-lasting, robust and safe for children of all ages and physical abilities to enjoy. Here are some of our favourites:

Triple Balance Beam

Triple Balance Beam - Timber Trim Trails

The Triple Balance Beam makes the ideal middle piece for any low-level trim trail. The beam’s long, narrow design definitely offers a challenge, whilst also improving children’s balance, coordination and judgement. The Triple Balance Beam can be installed alongside one of our climbing frames, towers and slides, to make the course even more exciting!

Rope Bridge

Rope Bridge - Trim Trails

The Rope Bridge is the ideal apparatus for smaller children, for example those in KS1 and KS2, as they can be off the ground without a high fall height. The bridge is the perfect, versatile addition to any trim trail, as it allows children to improve their balance skills by negotiating the best way to get from one side to another without falling off.

Clatter Bridge

Finally, Rhino Play’s hugely popular Clatter Bridge is another great option for your holiday and leisure park. Similar to the Rope Bridge, this provides great fun for younger children, who must cross the wobbly slats as quickly as possible to get to the other end. The Clatter Bridge is a must-have in any low-level trim trail!

What Are The Advantages Of Trim Trails In Hospitality Settings?

Low-level trim trails have a number of advantages that make them the perfect addition to any hospitality outdoor space. For example:

A Holiday To Remember

Nowadays, children are becoming increasingly drawn to electronic devices, meaning even on holiday, many would rather stay indoors on their tablet or phone than explore the hotel or holiday park facilities.

Installing more unique and exciting playground equipment like trim trails will encourage children to engage in more outdoor physical activities, which will not only make their holiday a lot more memorable, but may also encourage them to return!

Improved Physical And Mental Health

Another important benefit of outdoor trim trails is the positive impact they can have on children’s physical and mental health. The courses can be any length and can include different apparatus that will contribute to their development in the following ways:

  • Increased agility, balance, strength and coordination
  • Better spatial awareness
  • Relieves stress
  • Boosts serotonin
  • Encourages cognitive development through new textures, sounds and passages
  • Improves self-esteem

It is important to promote the physical wellbeing of children from a younger age, as this can be crucial to their development. Trim trails are an innovative way to encourage children to be physically active whilst also having fun with their friends on holiday.

Encourages Children To Socialise While On Holiday

Trim trails are also a great way of developing interpersonal skills from a younger age, as they bring together groups of like-minded children, who may be staying at the same hotel or leisure park. For example, children often enjoy competing with one another, which a low-level trim trail largely facilitates.

Outdoor play is a huge contributor to social development, and is a less intimidating way for children to approach and befriend one another when on holiday.

Peace Of Mind For Parents

Another benefit of the low-level trim trails is that they are specifically designed for younger children, for example those in KS1 and early years foundation stage (EYFS), as they are much closer to the ground in case they were to fall.

If you’re planning on installing some playground equipment within your holiday leisure park, it is a good idea to consider more inclusive, lower-level apparatus so that parents have peace of mind when leaving their smaller or less-mobile children to play. This means they will be able to relax and enjoy their stay without having to constantly worry about their children’s safety.

Are There Any Case Studies?

If you’d like to see some of the trim trails we have installed in the past, from small playgrounds for schools and nurseries, to larger scale commercial projects for community groups and holiday parks, we have collated numerous case studies. Here are some examples:

KS1 trim trail

Trim Trail Wizardry At West Hill Primary School – January 2022

Rhino Play recently installed bespoke, low-level trim trail Wizardry at West Hill Primary School, which featured balance beams, tyre challenges, clatter bridges and split traverse walls. It proved to be a huge hit amongst the children at the school, who are now apparently reluctant to return to lessons after their break!

Pull Up Bars Wooden

We are also regularly asked by customers to add to their existing trim trails, perhaps if they have some rotten apparatus which needs removing. Our recent Cornish trim trail additions completely transformed the playground of a small school in the south west. The high quality timber beams and the marine grade stainless steel bars offer great resistance from the nearby salty air, which likely contributed to the deterioration of their old equipment.
