Perfect in Penwith WAVE – Penzance, Cornwall – October 2025

In September 2025 we at Rhino Play successfully installed various items of our own recycled plastic play equipment & outdoor furniture throughout WAVES Penwith Academy in Penzance, Cornwall.

How Rhino Play Helped WAVE Penwith Academy

The WAVE academies are a mainstream provision for pupils designated as disengaged. They are most effective when they are used as an early intervention strategy to re-engage pupils with their learning. They are inspected as a mainstream provision and as such have to meet Ofsted criteria with regard to attendance, behaviour, attainment and pupil progress. Pupils access the academies either through permanent exclusion or as a result of being referred to the Pupil Support Panel.

The main area was for secondary aged pupils who needed an area to left off steam, to climb, hang, swing, use upper body & strengthen core:

• We designed & installed our ‘Instow Quad‘ climber which is an outdoor exercise & fitness station especially designed for KS2, teens & adult users.
• The equipment is manufactured from non rotting, sustainable, non splintering & salt water resistant recycled plastic posts, fitted with galvanised & powder coated steel top frames, giving an immensely long service life with very minimal maintenance required.
• We safety surfaced this with our Rubber Grass Mats.
• The secondary playground was also fitted out with six of our recycled plastic benches. These again provide an extremely long service life, with no rot & no splinters. The tactile smooth material makes for a comfortable seating area too.

The Primary area was fitted with an embankment slide, accessed from a tower & making use of the natural slope. we also fitted a Triple Balance Beam set too, which also doubles up as a bench. Again this was all in our recycled plastic & HDPE.
