During the summer of 2023, Rhino Play was awarded the contract to totally revamp the Early Years Foundation Stage area at Langford Budville Primary, a school in a peaceful rural setting north of Wellington in Somerset.
The Moorland Federation, who had previously used Rhino Play in various schools, asked us to create a design concept that allowed them to much better utilise the wild and dilapidated area they had just taken over. The existing space was segmented, dangerous and split-level, with rotten decked areas and fences.
To add to the challenge, access to the area was very limited, so everything had to be brought through with micro plant and by hand, and the two flights of steps didn’t help much either!
Working closely with the school and the Federation, Rhino Play created a flowing area from the previously divided space. We infilled areas, removed the rotten decking and fences, re-utilised the existing planter areas and created a seamless space that flows with the landscape, providing creative and fun play and learning in a beneficial, natural and safe setting.
Rhino Play provided the entire project: removal of the existing structures, groundworks, surfacing, planters, writing easels, sand pits, a mud kitchen, a water wall and a story area. Explore our full range of early years playground equipment, including sand, mud and water play options like those installed here.
The area was finished with hard-wearing safety surfacing, including rubber mulch surfacing and wet pour, designed to keep the space safe and looking good through years of enthusiastic early years play.
You’ll see from the before and after pictures just how we transformed this into the very appealing EYFS area the school now has. Despite the limited access, the project proves we can tackle any EYFS project given to us and deliver the results required.
Whether you’re revamping a tired EYFS area or starting from scratch, our team designs and installs early years playground equipment across the South West. Contact us to arrange a free site visit.
