Upgrading Uplyme Pre School, Dorset

Rhino Play recently upgraded the safety surfacing for a Dorset playground, Uplyme Pre School, to supply and lay rubber mulch safety and all-weather surfacing around their outdoor space.

The school previously had an outdoor area which was home to bare earth and tree roots, which could cause potential injuries to both staff and students, especially in the winter months when the ground became slippery and wet. By installing the permeable, slip-resistant and durable rubber mulch safety surfacing, the schools outdoor area was transformed, and can now be enjoyed all year round. The surface is porous and the rubber mulch surfacing allows the water and nutrients to still be accessible to the tree roots, without causing harm to the environment or the students.

How Did Rhino Play Transform Uplyme School?

As part of the process of inserting rubber mulch into school grounds, we carried out the following tasks to provide a well-kept area that is now suitable to use all year round.

• Edged the area to allow the rubber to meet the flush with the surrounding pathways & laid a weed-proof membrane across the entire area.
• Supplied and laid our ‘Forest Mix’
• Bound together Rubber Mulch over the area which was 40mm thick, providing a safe surface for any trips or falls.
• Moulded the surface around the trees, allowing them to grow around the surface.
