At Rhino Play, we are known for creating fun, innovative and unique playgrounds for a range of sectors, including schools, nurseries and community groups. While we spend a great deal of time creating, designing and installing large and bespoke playground equipment for primary schools and businesses across a variety of locations, we can also install high-quality playground equipment for secondary schools.
West Exe Secondary School in Exeter recently approached the Rhino Play team to renovate their athletic equipment and safety surfacing. The school is managed by a national facilities management company, which had expressed to the school that the old, worn out and dangerous long jump area needed to be replaced as soon as possible.
The school’s athletic equipment and long-jump surfacing had seen better days, having spent years exposed to the elements, the boards and run-up surface had become run-down, dilapidated and dangerous for the students to use. Traditionally, long jump tracks are built using a tartan or polymeric surface made from recycled rubber, which is then edged using a white laminated and a sealed wooden board.
Our team replaced the existing timber boards with new, treated and sealed timber and resurfaced the run-up, as well as re-edging the sand pit, to ensure the new long jump can be enjoyed by students for many sports days and PE lessons to come! Depending on the extent of use and competitive level – we offer two varieties of surfacing for long jump and other athletic areas. (For more information about our varieties of surfacing, contact a member of our team who will be happy to help.)
Whilst we were re-surfacing the long-jump with a bespoke, red safety surface, we also transformed the push-up and sit-up bars nearby. The new surfacing gives students a comfortable, soft(ish) and durable space to enjoy either during PE lessons or during break times.
We speak a lot about the benefits of installing playground equipment: Trim trails, adventure climbers and climbing frames, towers and slides for children in KS1 and KS2 but, secondary school pupils can also benefit from having high-quality outdoor equipment.
While they may be moving away from the cars road and rail-themed play units, there are still a lot of benefits to be had from outdoor exercising, in and out of PE lessons! Having access to a range of athletic equipment allows students to benefit from the following:
