Rhino Play’s playground design and planning team have been working with local authorities and parish councils for over ten years, creating, installing and maintaining safe and fun playgrounds for children, families and young people.
Recently, the team helped to transform Hatherleigh’s ‘The Island’ play park. After working closely with the Hatherleigh Parish Council, the team designed a bespoke multiplay system which children of all ages and abilities can enjoy.
The new William IV play unit was paired with our ever-popular double swing bay, in which a bird’s nest swing was installed alongside a flat seat and cradle swing, so toddlers, children and young adults could swing together.
Hatherleigh parish council wanted to create a safe, inclusive and inviting playground, so children, teenagers and young adults would be able to play, socialise and relax throughout the year. However, the playground equipment installed also had to blend in with the beautiful Mid-Devon countryside.
Knowing the playground equipment had to be durable, withstand the elements and blend into the rural surroundings, the team at Rhino Play built all the custom-made equipment using treated Scandinavian redwood timber. These were then installed using steel feet to prevent ground rot or strimmer damage. Rubber grass safety matting was also added to impact absorbency and to help blend into the surroundings.
The parish council wanted to encourage more families to visit Devon Town. The new playground unit is placed at the end of the town and can be viewed from the A386 as you enter the village, in an area that can be easily accessed and supervised.
