Creating A Cornish Castle – Truro, Cornwall – September 2021

This is our second project at this school, Oak Tree School near Truro in Cornwall, which is part of the Acorn Care and Education Trust. This school caters for children and young people aged 7 to 16 years who experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties, as well as challenging behaviors which makes it very difficult for them to be in mainstream schools. Oak Tree School wanted us to create a very bespoke and specilaised physical and creative area within some raised and wild ground, amongst trees. The idea was to create a play castle within the woods that would incorporate some challenging physical play and physical activities where the users could let of steam, but can also use as a go to place to calm and unwind.

Play Towers For All To Enjoy

The play castle or play fort provides all of this and more with its high stainless steel slide, its challenging Burma bridge, monkey bars, large castle tower with arrow slits and lookout windows, anti slip floor walkways, cargo net, traversing routes and a clatter bridge. The whole system works within the existing trees and provides a sense of being in nature and being part of the wooded area. The backdrop of the Cornish countryside also must help to calm and unwind too. Most of the structure is a low level meaning that fall heights are kept to a minimum but it also challenges where it descends over the raised bank, which also provides provides a great sense of height challenge too. As you can see the result is stunning and certainly works very well within this environment. If you have a bespoke play area design and planning request like this then please contact us to discuss designing and quoting.
