Bespoke Castle for Hemington Primary School – nr Radstock – August 2022

Hemington Primary is located in a picturesque Somerset village and has beautiful grounds including playing fields, a woodland area and existing playground. Rhino Play was invited to put together a proposal to install a new play unit which offered new play experiences, challenges and inclusivity. The school already have a play trail and they wanted something new that would add play value for break times as well as for use in P.E. lessons. The school was keen for the installation to not encroach on the sports pitch, but they did want a unit that was large enough to provide play and developmental opportunities for the children. The area the school had earmarked was on a sloping field between a flower bed and a pergola area.

How Did Rhino Play Help Hemington Primary?

Rhino Play offered a few options which would meet the criteria, after some alterations and discussions, we settled on an adapted, modified Ramparts play unit. The bespoke unit was redesigned to sit neatly on a sloping field and include a Clatterbridge instead of the standard slide. The layout was also altered from a linear layout to a ‘L’ shaped setup to best make use of the space available. This new layout also means that the school can add to the unit in phases as and when new budgets became available. The Ramparts play unit can now grow and change with the school requirements whilst breathing new life and interest into an already excellent unit. The Ramparts combines excellent theming with climbing, balancing, physical challenge, role play and social play in a bespoke setup that can develop and change as new sections are added. The bespoke Ramparts includes:

The unit was installed on free draining and well-maintained grass so didn’t require any additional safety surfacing. This unit challenges children in a safe and adventurous way that can be used during P.E. lessons and during break times.

What Are The Benefits Of Installing A New Play Tower?
