The Ramparts at The Mallard- Ilkeston, nr Derby – August 2022

We were invited to add some additional play equipment to the lovely pub garden at the Mallard in Ilkeston. The brief was to improve the space, encourage more families and to stand out from other pubs in the area. We were tasked with choosing a play unit that created an enjoyable play space for both primary school aged children and toddlers alike, whilst offering different play value and sliding opportunities to the unit they already had in place. The owners of the pub wanted a statement play unit in the garden but didn’t want to lose too much outdoor seating and didn’t want a play unit that had an overly large footprint.

How Did Rhino Play Help The Mallard?

After consultation with the owners, understanding the space available and ticking all the design brief boxes, Rhino Play opted for our beautifully designed Ramparts Castle play unit. The Ramparts combines excellent theming with climbing and sliding, physical challenge, role play and social play in a linear setup so that it wouldn’t overwhelm garden. The Ramparts itself is around 1.3m wide and 7.3m long and includes some great play items in a neat castle themed unit, the unit includes: tower platform and slide, climbing ramp, vertical net, under ramp and under platform den hiding areas, traverse walls along both sides, arrow slits, flag and shield detailing, side entrance opening, and cladding with castellation theming.

The unit was installed on well-maintained grass so didn’t require any additional safety surfacing. This unit challenges children in a safe and adventurous way and keeps them entertained for hours!
