Special Needs Play Project, Cornwall

During the summer months of 2020, the Rhino Play team were busy creating a fantastic new provision for the students at Curnow School in Illogan, Cornwall. This special needs school asked Rhino Play to come up with a provision for an outdoor sunken trampoline for rebound therapy, together with a play mound with slide for the students to benefit from climbing up, rolling, and sliding down it.

The Play Mound and Slide

The mound was partly created from the spoil dug out from the trampoline pit, along with extra stone, with the whole surface area covered in our superb high-quality bound rubber mulch safety surfacing. The slide sits into the mound, giving students a simple, low-level way to climb up and slide back down as part of their outdoor play.

The Sunken Trampoline

The trampoline is rectangular and has an access door properly fitted within its heavy-duty protective surround frame, all especially made for school and commercial use. Being sunken into the ground, it’s enclosed with a safety net surround, allowing students to use it safely as part of their rebound therapy.

Play Equipment For Therapy

This project was funded by the Wooden Spoon charity, so to honour this we created two large engraved wooden spoons that we fixed to the Pull Up Bars, which we also installed here as part of the same project. These provided the students with some upper body exercise provision too.

The Result

The end result offers the students at this Cornish special needs school a truly excellent addition to their grounds, combining rebound therapy, mound play, and upper body equipment in one space. Please contact us for any special needs bespoke creation project.
