Low level trail fun – St Stephens Primary, St Austell – November 2025

In July of this year we provided St Stephens Primary near St Austell in Cornwall with our linked low level timber Babbacombe Trail. This consists of six linked balancing & traversing items that can all be situated on grass. This set trail is our most popular, largely due to the set up & the competitive price.

Additional Playground Equipment

The school also requested an additional Trapeze Swing and Clatter Bridge to complement the main installation. These supplementary elements effectively extend the trail’s length and functionality, linking seamlessly with the existing components to create a more comprehensive challenge course.

The Trapeze Swing introduces an upper body strength element, whilst the Clatter Bridge adds an exciting sensory dimension with its distinctive movement and sound when traversed. These thoughtfully selected additions enhance the overall play value significantly.

Safety Surfacing Solution

To help protect against turf wear and make the equipment usable for more of the academic year, we supplied and fitted our premium Rubber Grass Mats safety surface throughout the installation area. These specialised mats provide crucial fall attenuation whilst allowing grass to grow through, maintaining the natural aesthetic of the playground.

The photographs clearly demonstrates how effectively these mats integrate with the surrounding landscape whilst providing the necessary safety compliance. This surfacing solution is particularly well-suited to the Cornish climate, where rainfall can quickly render standard grass surfaces unusable.

Key Benefits of The Installation

  • Creates a continuous 15.5m long trail where children can remain off the ground, developing crucial balance and coordination skills essential for physical literacy
  • Rubber Grass Mats prevent excessive turf wear and mud formation, significantly reducing maintenance requirements and extending usable play hours throughout the year
  • Designed for year-round use in various weather conditions, offering excellent value for money compared to traditional surfacing options
  • Modular design allows for future expansion as budgets permit, providing a scalable solution that can grow with the school’s needs
  • Promotes physical development and balance skills in line with the EYFS framework and Key Stage 1 PE curriculum requirements

The school PTA worked very hard to fundraise for this & were very pleased to have this in place for the summer term.
